Secure Identity Federation & Certificate-Based Authentication

Academic Project – Winter 2025

This project simulated a real-world enterprise IT environment focused on identity management, authentication, and secure access to external services. It was designed and implemented in a multi-site lab environment to reflect how organizations manage federated access across locations and systems.

The objective was to allow Active Directory users to securely access an external web application outside the domain, while ensuring that access remained fully controlled by domain policies. Using Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) and Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS), authentication was centralized so that only active, authorized domain users could authenticate successfully, while disabled accounts were automatically denied access.

This project addresses a common urban challenge: efficiently identifying available parking spaces in real time. Instead of relying on traditional physical sensors, the system uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to analyze camera feeds and determine parking occupancy, reducing infrastructure complexity and hardware costs.

The detection logic operates entirely on the backend, where live video streams are processed to identify occupied and available parking spots. Users interact with a web platform synchronized in real time, without direct exposure to camera feeds or detection mechanisms. Only available parking spots are displayed, allowing users to quickly check availability, make reservations, and receive confirmations through the platform.
